A 2 hour train ride north of Tokyo leads you to Nikko, a small city filled with temples and shrines and a mausoleum. What makes Nikko memorable is the town is hugged by mountains and beautiful forest. We enjoyed our walk and I think it would have also been nice to hike around the area, but we didn't have time.
We did also make it out to an onsen (bathhouse, not part of map) which was really enjoyable and only a 20 min bus ride from the station. I have to recall the name of the specific onsen...
